Does a person’s personality and attitude have an impact on premature ejaculation?
This is something men ask themselves as soon as they experience signs of PE. And the short answer is yes. Someone’s personality and impact can cause premature ejaculation. But it’s a bit more complicated than that.
In this post, you’ll learn what premature ejaculation is and its causes. There’s also information here that will help you deal with it if you’re suffering from PE.
Let’s go right ahead and jump right into it.
What is Premature Ejaculation?
The first thing we have to do is to define what premature ejaculation means. Why? Because some men think they suffer from it, but the reality is that they don’t.
Premature ejaculation is a condition where men ejaculate in less than three minutes after penetration. Men who have PE are unable to delay ejaculation on all (or nearly all) penetrations.
Anyone that lasts three minutes or longer is considered in the normal range. In short, they don’t have PE.
There are two main types:
- Lifelong PE: Men who have suffered from PE since their first sexual encounter.
- Acquired PE: Men who only developed PE at some point in their lives.
Is Premature Ejaculation Normal?
Yes. Premature ejaculation is perfectly normal. Between 30% to 40% of men will experience premature ejaculation and is often not considered permanent.
You can even go as far as saying that it’s a common issue for men. All men go through it at some point in their lives. So, if it only happened to you once or twice, there’s probably no need to worry. What you’ve gone through is nothing out of the ordinary.
What Causes Premature Ejaculation?
To understand how your personality and attitude and premature ejaculation are connected, you need to learn what causes it in the first place.
At this point, nobody knows why people end up having premature ejaculation. But experts believe that the reason behind PE is psychological. This includes factors like depression, anxiety, and stress — feelings that shape a person’s personality and attitude.
That’s why people who have constant relationship issues can suffer from premature ejaculation. So do people who lack self-confidence. Are you insecure about the way you look? That can lead to PE as well. 5% of the world’s adult population suffers from depression. If you’re depressed, you can suffer from PE too.
Here are some other factors that can lead to premature ejaculation:
- Performance anxiety
- Sexual repression
- Sexual abuse
- Unrealistic expectations
So, you really have to be aware of these PE triggers. You want to avoid having a negative personality and attitude.
If you’re constantly feeling down for whatever reason and it’s starting to affect your sex life, you should consult a professional. A doctor can pinpoint what’s causing your premature ejaculation and suggest treatment options.
Are Personality and Attitude the Only Contributing Factors to PE?
No. There are other factors that contribute to premature ejaculation. There are biological issues that you need to look out for like inflammation of the prostate. Having irregular hormone and brain chemical levels can also lead to PE.
Some men also have inherited traits that contribute to the problem.
Premature Ejaculation and Erectile Dysfunction
Can erectile dysfunction (ED) lead to premature ejaculation? Yes. And note that 52% of men will experience some form of ED, especially as they grow older.
Men that suffer from erectile dysfunction can ejaculate earlier than they want to. How is this possible? When a man can only get erect for a limited time, they’re more likely to rush through sex. Sometimes it’s intentional but oftentimes it’s a bad habit that they start to develop.
You can rectify the situation by going to specialists and talking to them about ED treatment options. There are times when all it takes is a testosterone treatment to get yourself right back in the proper headspace.
What Can You Do to Stop Premature Ejaculation?
If the problem has to do with your personality and attitude, you should consult with an expert in the field. A specialist will know how to help you process your emotions to help put an end to your premature ejaculation. They can even recommend a treatment plan, such as PE therapy, to treat the underlying causes of dysfunction.
Squeezing the Penis
This method will require you to squeeze the head of your penis when you feel that you’re just about to reach an orgasm. Do this as many times as you can until you’re ready to finish.
Some men swear by this method. But if you’re not comfortable squeezing your penis, you can try the stop-and-start method. In this case, you’re letting the urge to orgasm pass by through stopping alone. When the moment passes, you can resume having sex — only stopping when you feel an orgasm coming again.
Either of these methods should train your body to last longer than normal.
If you’re going to use constriction devices like ED rings, just make sure you do your research before buying one.
Wearing a Condom
Wearing a condom reduces the sensation felt by the penis while having sex. That means you can delay your orgasm by quite a bit. As a bonus, you can also use condoms to stimulate your partners. And it helps protect both you and your partner from harm and unwanted pregnancy (condoms are 98% effective when used correctly).
Experiment with different brands and features to see which condom will work best for you. Once you get used to the sensation, that’s when you can try having sex without a condom to test if your premature ejaculation has been resolved.
Use Numbing Creams
Numbing creams or sprays are applied on the head of the penis about half an hour before having sex. You then have to remove any excess cream off the penis 5 to 10 mins before having intercourse. If you don’t, you risk making your partner numb as well.
It’s a bit troublesome to use and it does kill the spontaneity of it all if you’re not having sex with a regular partner. But it can help, at least in the short term.
Do Kegel Exercises
You can try doing Kegel exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. These PE exercises will give you some control over your ejaculation, especially if you perform them regularly.
