How is Erectile Dysfunction Diagnosed?

There is no treatment without a diagnosis. Erectile dysfunction (ED) affects a substantial number of men in the society, and even though they want treatment, they are skeptical about a diagnosis. The good news is diagnosis involves simple non-painful procedures that will help the doctor treat the problem and restore normalcy. The diagnosis procedures or tests include:

Questions about your health and ED history

The doctors at Premier Men’s Medical Center reviews each patient’s medical records prior to asking you questions relating to your medical past, the medication you have been taking and for how long. These questions will help in establishing the cause of the ED. Questions regarding your erectile dysfunction may seem personal, however, each patient has the reassurance of knowing that all of their medical records are strictly confidential and is safeguarded in accordance with Federal Laws.

The honest answers given by the patient will lead to an accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Physical examination

It is a careful examination of your penis and testicles to determine how well the nerves respond. It may involve checking the blood pressure in your penis and testicles before moving to further tests. A physical examination aims at establishing the performance of your nerves, muscle and blood supply.

Ultrasound test

An ultrasound test is usually performed on each patient to examine the blood flow within of your penis. There will be a drug that will stimulate an erection, and the doctor will be looking at the monitor to see any possible problems in your arteries and muscle. The imaging helps to determine if there are some blocked arteries as well as control the blood pressure.

Lab test

The two common lab tests can also be prescribed if required such as; blood test and urine test. A urine test will look for other possible irregularities, which could be causing ED. Blood tests can be given to test for diabetes and can establish the level of your testosterone and other diseases associated with Erectile Dysfunction.
